The Itinerary

Lake Winnipeg, the world's sixth-largest freshwater lake (24,500 km², larger than Massachusetts), offers on its east shore one of North America's most beautiful beaches: Grand Beach, regularly listed in top-10 world beaches by CNN, Conde Nast and Playboy magazine — immaculate white sand, 8 m dunes, shallow warm water (23°C in summer).

Grand Beach Provincial Park (since 1961), 1h15 from Winnipeg via Highway 12 then 59 north, draws up to 1 million visitors yearly. The West Beach boardwalk leads to Pinnacle Boardwalk. The dunes are closed during the nesting season for the piping plover (endangered species). Restaurants, marina, trails, camping.

20 minutes north, Victoria Beach (since 1911) is a private "cottage country" where cars have been banned since Memorial Day: only pedestrians, bicycles and electric golf carts circulate in the heritage village — pure nostalgia. Manitobans have built family cottages there for 4 generations. En route, Patricia Beach (smaller, quieter), and Manitoba's Stonewall Quarry Park are other options.
